Inside The Blue Grotto
Island of Capri, Italy
There was quite a bit of swell outside the entrance this day on the Mediterranean Sea. The oarsman positioned the boat towards the sheer rock wall. The small opening to the Grotto was hidden under the surface of the water at the wave swell’s peak. He timed it perfectly with a thrust of the oars. The boat surged forward and seemed certain to be dashed to pieces on the cliff, but at the last second the wave’s trough revealed the opening, and all of us, crouched low in the boat, shot through the cave entrance to the beautiful, azure tones and eerie calm inside of The Blue Grotto.
