The climbing and hiking season has begun in earnest! This is a view from the summit of Devil’s Head Peak in the Rampart Range looking south to Pike’s Peak about 50 miles away. It threatened rain at the top, but the clouds gave way to blue skies on the way down.

You can clearly see the jagged prominence of Devil’s Head from Denver. At its summit is Colorado’s last remaining staffed fire lookout — and quite a hike to get there — with a view of almost 100 miles in every direction.

This is a panorama of the Continental Divide this past weekend from Loveland Pass (11,990’) in Colorado. There is a lot of snow left in high country. Some of the snowplow cuts on the road going up to the pass were 10’-12’ deep!

This panorama is from the top of the pass. You can see the ski and snowboard tracks below as enthusiasts often have someone drop them off at the top of the pass and then ski/snowboard down to friends in a waiting car part way down the pass road.

Sadly, this is where about three weeks ago five skiers and snowboarders were killed in a large avalanche. They ventured into dangerous conditions and a giant slab of snow they were on let loose. Ominous avalanche warnings had been posted by authorities. They had avalanche beacons on as a precaution, but one of the party was found buried 16’ deep in the snow. No beacon can save you from that!

Backcountry Colorado is beautiful in all seasons, and I hope everyone has a chance to experience it. However, in winter and spring it can also turn deadly in the bat of an eye. Please heed these warnings and encourage others to do the same.

Ty Lawson scored to put Denver ahead 95-92 with 35 seconds left in the first playoff game today between the Denver Nuggets and the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors tied the game a few seconds later, but Andre Miller (on the far right) scored again with one second left to seal the deal for the Nuggets 97-95.

History: Roxy needed rescue from a filthy pound. She was so scared there. We were able to get her into rescue, along with her sister Brooklyn. They are adorable puppies and appear to be a bulldog/boxer mix. They are very friendly and have sweet personalities. Roxy is doing excellent with children, cats, birds and other dogs.
