I hiked up Mt. Royal above Frisco, Colorado last weekend. It was a gorgeous day, but there was still a lot of snow on the trail. There were great views of the Blue River Valley, the Gore Range and the Williams Fork Range and you can see the steep drop to I-70 below as it cuts through Ten Mile Canyon.

I hiked up the North Ten Mile Creek Trail near Frisco, Colorado this weekend. The weather was good for a winter hike and the the stream was flowing almost up to tree line.

I was up in beautiful Colorado High Country this weekend. This photo was taken at an elevation of about 11,000’ on the Wheeler Lakes Hiking Trail between Frisco and Vail. You can see some of the ski runs at Copper Mountain Resort in the distance.

The still-open lake gives up its heat to a cold day in the mountains and will soon be covered with ice. Over 4’ (122 cm) of snow has already fallen up here this month providing a great start for all the nearby ski resorts.

It’s 20 minutes after sunset and the below-horizon sun still lights a fire in the higher clouds.

The Snake River Arm of Lake Dillon is now free of ice, but winter still lingers with occasional snows in High Country.

The ice is starting to move out on Lake Dillon in Colorado High Country. The cold, calm waters reflect a late-season dusting of snow.

Apparently, the motion to increase the holiday decorations budget at the Frisco Bay Marina failed to garner the necessary votes from the board.

A system moved in from the west and dumped about a foot of snow in the central Colorado mountains – much to the delight of the area ski resorts. At the end of the day, the sun struggles to break through the clouds and casts its light across the frozen surface of Lake Dillon. That dark speck on the lake in the center right of the photo is a person out walking on the ice.
