Otherworldly lenticular clouds “invade” Colorado High Country yesterday. These clouds were above Keystone Resort.
It’s late afternoon and the snowcats are getting ready to groom the hills for night skiing at Keystone Resort, Colorado. That’s Mt. Guyot (left) and Bald Mountain (right) off in the distance.
On a Sunday at Keystone it was one of those perfect moments. I started the ski run at the top, deep in the midst of the thick overhead clouds. Visibility was 50’! About a third of the way down I emerged below the cloud deck to find myself alone on the long downhill run. There wasn’t a soul in sight above or below me. It was like I had my own private ski resort — if only for a short while.
Opening weekend panorama at Keystone. Considering it’s Nov 6th, the ski conditions are really good! It was calm, with abundant sunshine, and temperatures were above 50º F (10º C).

I arrived in Silverthorne, Colorado a half hour before sunset. A powerful thunderhead was making its way across the mountains near Lake Dillon. Some of the ski runs from Keystone Resort are visible in the background.
Ben, the boys, and I went skiing at Keystone today. Lots of fresh snow, but blustery.
