It’s sunny and 70º in Denver this Thanksgiving Day, but this is what it looked like after a brief snowstorm a couple of weeks ago. This is the Republic Plaza Building in downtown Denver taken from the 16th Street Mall.
Happy Thanksgiving!

A shaft of morning sunlight illuminates the surface of a calm Lake Dillon while dark, gathering clouds portend the first major snowstorm of the season in Colorado High Country. Higher elevations are predicted to get 14” to 24” (356 mm to 610 mm) of snow.
Near Dillon, Colorado.
The storm clouds of winter are gathering and snow is moving into the Colorado Rockies today. The snow line was down to about the 9000’ level.

This is the last weekend of skiing at many of the Colorado resorts, and I hit the slopes at Copper Mountain for a few final runs. There was plenty of snow, but with temperatures in the the mid 40s, it was a bit slushy. A storm rolled over the mountain while I was there. At this time of year, the storms are more like thunderstorms than snowstorms, but this high up, the precipitation is usually in the form of snow.
It was a bit eerie because on the way up the lift and while I was at the top of the mountain, it was gusty, snowing heavy, and there were loud cracks of thunder. Needless to say, I didn’t linger long at the top.
This photo was taken part of the way down on a slope called Andy’s Encore. I almost had the mountain to myself. Judging from the ominous thunderclouds overhead, I think I know why :D

Winter continued this weekend in High Country. In the photo above, snow-laden clouds march across Lake Dillon while a thin sliver of sunrise light temporarily breaks through the clouds and streaks across the frozen surface.
Area ski resorts have recorded about 18” of fresh powder in the last week.

Another snowstorm moved into Denver. Downtown had about 10” of snow and some of the suburbs had as much as 20”. The photo above was taken early this morning outside Jax Fish House, downtown Denver.

A system moved in from the west and dumped about a foot of snow in the central Colorado mountains – much to the delight of the area ski resorts. At the end of the day, the sun struggles to break through the clouds and casts its light across the frozen surface of Lake Dillon. That dark speck on the lake in the center right of the photo is a person out walking on the ice.

A snowstorm hung in the high country of the eastern Sierras all day as you can see from the photo above. The ground out on the plains and lower foothills remained almost snow free, but above 8000’ it snowed most of the day. The passes heading west into Yosemite all closed down due to heavy snow.

March goes out like a lion. Through 4 PM today a storm has dumped 16” of snow at our lake home. The photo above is a snow-covered arbor in our yard.
There are a couple of other photos, too. This one shows the snow depth outside one of our lake-side sliding doors. There was no snow here before the storm! Also, this one is a view out back.
